There are not lots of Coaches in the world who can think about "off the ball" and recognize and evaluate its importance and value, and players who can perform high quality of "off the ball" movements (of cognition and information processing). Even if you look at it, I feel that there are not many in the women's soccer world.
However, I think that international level players (= players who have a lot of experience in tough games on the world stage) have high quality cognitive ability and high processing ability.
The reason is that the areas of "dimension", "depth", and "width" required at the international level are different.
Nonverbal message
I think that "processing capacity" can be broadly classified into two types.
One is "information processing ability". This is defined as "the ability to recognize and analyze the movement and speed of allies, opponents, and balls."
The other is "execution processing ability". It is defined as "the ability to embody the information processed by the brain using with physical movements".
Higher-order linked play is possible between players who have a high level of speed, quality, and accuracy from information processing to execution processing. This is because there are many "drawers of basic patterns of information amount" from past experience, so it is possible to predict and move in advance.
Having a lot of foundations means that there are also a lot of application patterns that can be developed from them. We can play such a high level because we put what we are thinking next in the "part of nonverbal language" as a message.
As a FW I read information from the front position and the movements of teammates (posture, position, etc.), and while making a move that is making superiority with using tactical skills against the opponent. I can instantly move myself at the timing when I can get the ball from my teammates as I decide.
However, if a teammate does not predict the next picture when placing the ball with the first touch, or if she does not dribble to make action the movement of her teammates, she will move again and again, and she often need to "get recognized".
Recently, for me there are more opportunities to play in the middle position, and the role of "To recognize side" is increasing from "To be recognized side", so I need to recognize the high quality movement of teammates and adjust to it. I realize that work requires a fairly high level of processing ability.
Master the basics of mind, body and technical skills
I had the opportunity to play with Sam Kerr who is a great Australian striker.
Sam has a very high quality of movement to pull the ball behind the defender line in an advantageous state while using tactics skills against the defender at the last minute of the offside line. In addition, the speed at which it starts to move is very fast, so if the timing at which she makes a pass shifts even for a moment, it will be offside.
In order to supply Sam with a pass at the right time and at the right ball speed, you have to manipulate your body (internal cognition) while recognizing Sam's movement, opponent's position, and empty space (external cognition).
As I spend more time playing with her, I've also found that sending a message with my eyes before I hit the ball is the switch for her to move.
This is the same switch as when I start moving. The ball holder's line of sight is one of the important pieces of information that determines whether a teammate is ready to make a pass.
In order to take advantage of high-quality movement, it is necessary to have the ability of a high-performance provider.
In addition, if there is a teammate who can be linked to the start of movement, higher-order cooperation will be possible. For this, it is necessary to "master (enhance) the basics of the mind, body and technical skills", and I feel that it will lead to an increase in processing capacity as a whole.
To Make many pattern of drawers
When the speed of this "information processing → execution processing" becomes faster, the movement becomes smoother and the speed of expansion changes. Being smooth means less waste and less moments of freezing, and increases the productivity of individuals and organizations.
Recently, it has become clear that one of the basic tasks in soccer, "moving according to the movements of teammates," can only be achieved with a certain level of processing ability.
"Movement to match the player who has the ball" and "Movement to match the player who is trying to receive the ball", the moment when both images and timing overlap is exactly the moment when synchronicity occurs.
More and More Against The higher level of the opponent, you need the more information that is recognized, the speed at which it is processed, and the accuracy (accuracy of execution) need to be increased, and I feel that playing in this area is really fun.
"If you move, the other person will move" (select a movement that the other person has to move because you move) → "If the other person moves, you will have a space" → "If you have a space, you will have a gap".
First of all, be aware of what happens when you move. Then, we will assemble "for what", "when" and "where to move at what speed" based on the information obtained from that recognition and past experience.
Soccer nature is the same whether you hold the ball or not, and if you repeat the above work, a "pattern" will be built according to the situation.
If you make many drawers of patterns as an individual and increase the processing capacity, you can increase the variation of patterns as an organization. I think that each person making an effort to make many such skills will be one of the necessary tasks to improve the organizational strength.
However, when you play soccer somehow with your friends and to step away from the playing like "just enjoy playing", it becomes possible to play in a stage that is one level higher as an organization --- when I step into that stage, It will be possible to enjoy the high level of fun.
I think that the fun on that stage is the true having fun.
